This service includes several offerings, such as requesting access to the VPN for authorized use, assistance with installing the GlobalProtect application on your device, and support for troubleshooting and resolving any VPN-related issues.

GrizzVPN is required for connecting to university resources such as shared drives and Banner from off-campus.

Note: All faculty and staff are granted access to GrizzVPN by default.

Who is Eligible?

Active staff, faculty, student employees, and 3rd party vendors or consultants with a valid NetID account.

Vendors / Consultants

Prerequisites:

  • Vendors / Consultants must first obtain a NetID Guest Account before requesting VPN access. Please submit a NetID Guest Account Request if one has not already been requested: NetID Guest Account Request
  • Vendors / Consultants must have an active contract in place with Oakland University.

Please be advised:

  • Please allow 2 weeks for processing. New vendor companies may require additional work to provision VPN access.
  • Vendor VPN access remains in effect as long as the vendor's Guest Account is active.
  • Vendor VPN access is granted only for the necessary period of time with a maximum duration of 1 year. Extensions must be requested 2 weeks prior to the scheduled expiration date. Submit this request again with the "Renew" access option to extend access.
  • The sponsor of the NetID Guest Account is responsible for immediately notifying UTS to revoke access when the guest is no longer affiliated with OU by:
    • Submitting the NetID Guest Account Request and selecting the "Cancel Account".
    • Submitting this form and select the "Remove" access option.

Student Employees

Prerequisites:

  • Student must be actively employed by Oakland University.
  • Sponsors / supervisors must ensure that student has reviewed OU's Remote Work Guidance and a remote work configuration that aligns with OU standards.

Please be advised:

  • Student VPN access will expire on the last employment date as specified by Student Employment
  • A new request must be submitted for each term VPN access is required.
  • Student VPN access and removals go into effect at 7:00 AM ET the morning after the request is processed by UTS.
  • Sponsors / supervisors are responsible to submit a new request to revoke access if employment ends before the term ends.

Prerequisites and Expectations

The Security Office reviews requests for VPN access to verify eligibility and authorization. Once approved, the user receives a confirmation email that their access is now available.

The OU Technology Center will reach out to the requester to assist with the installation of the GlobalProtect application, upon request.

If a problem is reported, the OU Technology Center will diagnose the issue in cooperation with the requester, utilizing remote troubleshooting or an in-personal appointment. The Technology Center will forward the ticket to an alternative UTS team if advanced issues persist.
