Ready to release aging technology from your department? Submit a request here to have UTS coordinate the release of department-owned technology equipment. UTS will repurpose released technology for use in other campus areas if possible.
This process replaces the previous Secure Data Erase/Wipe for Release to GUS service.
Important: Technology equipment must not be released directly to GUS or Property Management without prior UTS review and approval.
Who is Eligible?
- Department asset managers.
- Authorized department representatives.
Prerequisites and Expectations
Before Submitting a Request
- Equipment must remain in departmental possession until reviewed by UTS.
- Departments should identify all equipment being released.
- Only department-owned technology equipment may be submitted for release requests. Personally owned devices are not eligible.
- Departments should not independently move technology equipment to GUS or Property Management without UTS approval.
- Departments should not transfer technology equipment to another department without UTS approval.
UTS reserves the right to determine whether equipment will be:
- Reimaged and repurposed for other campus areas.
- Securely wiped, retired, and approved for disposal through GUS.
After Submitting a Request
- A UTS technician will schedule an in-person appointment to review the equipment.
- UTS will take possession of computers, mobile devices, and other supported technology that may be eligible for reuse.
- Equipment that is ineligible for reuse or outside the scope of UTS support will be approved for direct release to GUS.
- UTS will coordinate with GUS for equipment approved to be released directly to GUS.
- Departments are responsible for coordinating any required moving services to transport equipment to GUS.

UTS services are provided free of charge. Departments may incur costs if moving services are required to transport equipment to GUS.
