Request Local Administrator Access

Use this service to request local administrator access on an Oakland University-managed computer. Local admin access is granted on a case-by-case basis to support specific academic, research, or business needs that require administrative rights for software installation, configuration changes, or other advanced tasks.

Who is Eligible?

Oakland University faculty and staff with a documented business or academic need.

Prerequisites and Expectations

  • Requests must include:

    • A clear justification for why local administrative privileges are required

    • The computer hostname or asset tag

    • Software title(s), version number(s), and function(s) requiring admin rights

    • Expected frequency of installation or configuration changes

  • Requesters must agree to all terms and conditions before access is granted.

  • Approval is subject to review by University Technology Services (UTS) and/or the appropriate department head or chair.

  • Local admin access is limited to the specific device(s) identified in the request.

  • UTS reserves the right to deny or revoke admin rights if the request does not meet evaluation criteria or if security compliance is not maintained.

  • Modifications made by the user that disrupt system usability may result in the device being reimaged to a standard configuration. 

Terms and Conditions

By submitting this request, the user affirms that they:

  • Have read and agree to Policy 890 – Acceptable Use Policy for University Computer Resources

  • Will keep all UTS-required software (e.g., antivirus) installed, updated, and functioning

  • Will not install unauthorized or unlicensed software

  • Will comply with all End User License Agreements (EULA) for any software installed

  • Will take reasonable steps to maintain workstation security and prevent malware

  • Are responsible for backing up all local data and applications

  • Understand that administrative access is limited to the approved device and is non-transferable

Required Signatures

  • User: Must acknowledge and agree to the terms above by signing and dating the request

  • Department Head or Chair: Must approve the request based on job duties and outlined justification
