Firewall

The Firewall service ensures secure and controlled access to Oakland University’s network and cloud-based resources by allowing authorized users to request modifications to firewall rules. Firewall changes help manage access control, security policies, and compliance requirements for applications, servers, and other university services. Users can request changes to firewall rules for both on-premises and AWS-hosted environments, specifying the necessary modifications such as IP addresses, ports, protocols, and justifications.

The following service offerings are included within Firewall:

  • Firewall Change Request – Request modifications to firewall rules for on-premises network access to specific systems, applications, or services.
  • Firewall Change Request – AWS – Request firewall rule modifications for AWS-hosted applications, servers, and cloud resources, including security group changes.

Who is Eligible?

Software managers and other authorized personnel responsible for managing application and service access.

Prerequisites and Expectations

Each request is reviewed by the Security Office and Network Communication Services teams to assess security risks and ensure compliance with university policies. Approved firewall changes are scheduled for implementation and tested to verify functionality. Users should submit requests well in advance to allow time for review, approval, and deployment.
