Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Duo is multi-factor authentication service that adds an extra layer of security to your account.

Security Note: Do not approve a Duo prompt if you did not authorize it and change your password immediately.

Who is Eligible?

Duo is required for active students, faculty, and staff using select applications as listed below which otherwise are not handled by Microsoft Authenticator.

  • Linux/HPC SSH/SFTP Access
  • Splunk Access
  • Shared account access
  • Guest accounts

Prerequisites and Expectations

After submitting a request or reporting an issue, a technician will reach out to provide support or fulfill the request.

How it works:
1. Initial Login: Users attempt to log in as usual, entering their username and password.
2. Duo Verification: After the initial login attempt, Duo presents a prompt to verify the user's identity using a second factor.
3. Verification Methods: Common verification methods include:

  • Duo Mobile app: Users receive a push notification on their mobile device and tap "Approve" to confirm their identity.
  • Duo Fob (token): Users use a physical token to generate a unique passcode that they enter on the Duo prompt.
