Downloading the Installer

To install the current versions of Microsoft apps, visit https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps and sign in to your OU account (make sure to include the @oakland.edu) After entering in your password a page will pop up stating "Stay signed in?", this choice is personal preference.

If you receive an error message stating "Your password cannot be reset at this website" Then you need to reset your NetID password which can be done at netid.oakland.edu.

Installing the Office Setup

On the right hand side of your page, select the button labeled Install apps and choose the first option Microsoft 365 apps in the drop down menu.

A new tab will open with a Microsoft Office portal and will have Office apps & devices. Click on the button labeled Install Office

Depending on your operating system (OS) the steps vary slightly. Please follow the steps based on your correct operating system.

Windows (Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, etc. devices)

After pressing the Install Office button, File Explorer will open to allow you to choose the destination for the .exe file for setting up Microsoft 365 and the Office suite. The most convenient spot to save the file to is the Downloads folder which can be easily found using the navigation panel on the left hand side of the window.

Once you have saved the file, open File Explorer and go to that same location. You should be able to run the OfficeSetup file.

A pop up window will appear asking if Office Setup is allowed to make changes to the computer, click the Yes button

Once running, a window will appear like the one below.

Allow this process to fully run while it installs all of the Microsoft 365 Apps. Once finished another pop window will appear like this:

Now that all of the Microsoft 365 apps have installed, click the Close button.

macOS (Apple devices)

Open Finder (smiley face icon) and go the Downloads folder on the left hand side.

Run the Microsoft 365 installer. Once open a pop up window will appear that will ask you to agree to the Software License Agreement, click the Continue button when ready.

After clicking the button there will be smaller pop up window asking you to agree. If you are ready to install, click the Agree button.

Once agreed, you will automatically be directed back to the original pop up window that will allow you to select the desination for the installation. Click on Install for all users of this computer then click the Continue button.

The next pop up window will inform you of how much space the installation is going to take up and allows you to change the install location if you choose to do so. When ready click the Install button.

After clicking Install, the next pop up window will be a login prompt. Please enter your username and password for your device, NOT your Oakland account. Once the credentials have been entered click the Install Software button.

When the installation finishes, there will be a "The installation was successful" window displayed on your screen, click the Close button. Once clicked a new pop up window will appear asking to move the installer to the Trash, click Move to Trash.

You have now completed the installation for Microsoft 365 and the Office suite for your device.


Testing Your Applications

The final step is to open any or all of the applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) that you want to use and make sure that they work properly. When opening one of the applications it will request that you sign in to your account, please log in using your Oakland email and password. The pop up window will look like the one below and you will need to click on the Sign in or create account button.

The next pop up windows will be the default Microsoft login windows. After typing in your Oakland email, click the Next button. In the next window, enter your password when prompted and click the Sign in button

After clicking the Sign in button, a new pop up window will appear with a buffering circle and the words "One moment..."

Lastly when the "One moment..." window goes away, you will be brought to the default home page for the application (Microsoft Word in the images below) and in the upper right hand corner you should see your initials in the profile icon. Click on your profile icon and it should display your information including your name and Oakland email.

Once you have confirmed that your information is correct, you are all set to use the applications.
