Testing an ODBC connection is a quick way to verify that your system can successfully communicate with a database using a defined data source. This guide walks you through the steps to locate and test a System DSN on a Windows machine to ensure your configuration is working correctly.

Anyone with ODBC access and a Windows computer.
Guide
- Open ODBC Data Sources (64-bit)
- Click the Start menu or use the search bar in your Windows taskbar.
- Type "ODBC" and select ODBC Data Sources (64-bit).
- Go to the System DSN Tab
- In the ODBC window, click on the System DSN tab at the top.
- Select and Configure the ODBC Service
- Find and select the appropriate Data Source from the list and click it to turn in blue.
- Click the Configure... button.
- Test the Connection
- Click the Test Connection button.
- When prompted, log in with your Banner or ODS credentials.
FAQ or Troubleshooting
- Run as Administrator
- Click the Start menu or use the search bar in your Windows taskbar.
- Type "ODBC" and right-click the ODBC Data Sources (64-bit) application and select "Run as administrator".
- Check Network Connectivity
- Make sure your computer is connected to the network or VPN, if required.
- Authentication Errors
- Make sure you’re entering the correct Banner or ODS username and password.
- If your credentials were recently changed, try logging in again or restarting your system.
- Verify the oraclient '(M) drive' is mapped and active.
