Remote Access Between Two Macs Using Screen Sharing

To connect to a remote Mac using macOS's built-in Screen Sharing feature, follow these steps on both the office Mac and the remote (at home) Mac.

On the office Mac

  1. Ensure the Mac is powered on and connected to a reliable network (preferably Ethernet).

  2. Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner and go to System Settings > General > Sharing

  3. Enable the Screen Sharing and Remote Login settings.

  4. Click the [i] icon next to "Screen Sharing", then note the computer's hostname or IP address (e.g., GJD6QQPN4M.kl.oakland.edu, or 141.210.75.231)

On the remote (at home) Mac

  1. Connect to the GlobalProtect VPN.

    • If you don't have the GlobalProtect VPN on your Mac, visit grizzvpn.oakland.edu to install it.

  2. Open the Screen Sharing application.

  3. Enter the hostname or IP address of the office Mac.

  4. Enter your username and password when prompted.

  5. If successful, you will see and control the screen on the office Mac.
