As a security measure to prevent potential viruses, Gmail does not allow you to send or receive executable files (files ending in .exe) that could contain damaging executable code.
Who is Eligible?
Active Faculty, Staff and Students
Information:
Gmail will not accept these types of files even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. If this type of message is sent to your Gmail address, it will bounce back to the sender automatically.
You can send and receive messages up to 20 megabytes (MB) total (including attachments). Any message that exceeds this limit will not be delivered to your inbox and will be returned to the sender.
See the Google help document here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6590?hl=en
If you are experiencing issues with sending attachments using Webmail powered by Google, we recommend that you make a secure connection to the Google servers and try to resend the attachment. Follow the steps below to make this connection:
- Login to webmail.oakland.edu with your NetID and password.
- After logging in, confirm the URL address begins with 'HTTP'.
- Click inside the address bar and add an 's' to the 'HTTP' so that it appears as ‘HTTPS’.
- Press enter on your keyboard to reload the website.
- The website will reload to a secure connection (HTTPS) to Google's server.
