Given that Microsoft Copilot is a separate service from Copilot Chat, users will not be able to access Copilot Chat from copilot.microsoft.com. Please refer to the two links above in order to utilize this service.
Data Usage
Unlike Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Google Gemini AI services provided through Oakland University’s Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat does not have access to institutional data such as emails, documents, or meetings through our Microsoft environment. Instead, Copilot Chat has limited file upload support for documents, images, and files that the end-user chooses to share with Copilot Chat.
Conversations and data shared with Copilot Chat are subjected to Microsoft’s Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) guidelines. Microsoft guarantees that data shared is not used to train additional AI models.
However, the usage of AI tools such as Copilot Chat are still subjected to the governance of University Policy 860 and the AI Usage Guidelines. Users of these AI tools should ensure that they are adhering to these guidelines when sharing data with these tools voluntarily.
Eligibility
Copilot Chat is available to all active faculty, staff, and students at no cost. This service is also available to the following types of users who still have an affiliation with the university and are automatically granted a Microsoft A1 license:
- Faculty Emeritus/Emerita
