Gaining Access

To access the ACL server, if you have done it please submit a ticket to request to add you NetID to the HVAC VPN.

After the account has been added to the HVAC VPN follow the steps below:

  1. Download the Duo Mobile from the App Store in your smart phone
  2. In your computer open a web browser and go to https://hvacvpn.oakland.edu

  1. Under username type your NetID and its password.
  2. A "Protect your Oakland University Account" page will appear. Please read the instructions and select the "Start setup" button.

  1. Select the "Type of device that you would like to add". If you don't have a smart phone or table you can select the "Landline" for your office phone number.
  2. Select "Continue"

  1. Enter the phone number that you would like to setup for Duo.

  1. After typing the phone number it will ask the type of phone.

  1. If you haven't installed Duo Mobile from step 1 go ahead an do it, then select "I have Duo Mobile installed" button.

  1. To activate Duo follow the instructions displayed in the screen, and scan the barcode. If is successfully activated you will have a green check mark over the barcode.

  1. "My settings & Devices" screen will give you the option to select how would you like to authenticate when trying to connect to the VPN. The most common option is "Automatically send this device a Duo Push".

  1. Select the authentication method:
    • "Send Me a Push" you will receive a notification on your DUO Mobile Application installed in your device, then you have to open the application to approve the connection.
    • "Call Me" will call you to the phone number that you setup.
    • "Enter a Passcode" will send a text message with a code to the phone number that setup. Then you will type the code into the screen.
      • Please note this step is the only one you will need to follow every time you connect to the HVAC VPN.

  1. You will receive a screen "Please wait..." , it will download the Pulse secure into the task bar
