Cisco Phone - Customization

VoIP phones allow more customization on a per-phone basis than was possible with the traditional telecom system. At Oakland University, this is done through a web interface located at myphone.oakland.edu

Who is Eligible?

Active Faculty or Staff

User Options

After logging on with your NetID and password you can change the following options

Device

For each option listed, you will be able to save, reset and apply configuration. This is where you can change basic options such as speed dials, Do Not Disturb, and Call Forwarding.

Device Configuration

  • Select English, United States under User Locale
  • Enable, Disable or customize Do Not Disturb option.
    • This option allows you to turn off the ringer if you do not wish to be disturbed. You can also set the Incoming Call Alert on Disabled, Flash, or Beep Sound.

Line Settings Configuration

  • Customize Incoming Call forwarding
    • This option allows you to select an extension for your calls to be forwarded to when your line is busy, when there is no answer, when there is no coverage or is unregistered.
  • Customize Message Waiting Lamp
    • This option allows for you to have a flashing light and/or prompt for an unheard message.

Speed Dial Configuration

  • Add the preferred number and label.
    • This will allow you to place your preferred numbers on speed dial and set a label to them. The label could be letters or numbers.
  • ASCII label will add itself.
  • When you are finished with your changes, select “Save” at the bottom left hand corner.

Note: Speed dials are set on a per phone basis. This means if you have more than one phone they would need to be set on all phones individually. Additionally not all phones have speed dial buttons by default; currently Cisco 6941’s, 6961’s, and 7962’s support speed dial buttons by default

User Settings

Phone PIN

  • This allows you to update the PIN you use to log in to phone services.
    • This PIN is used to access your Personal Address Book and Fast Dial Numbers
    • To use these services, please log in with your NetID username and the PIN you set up for your phone

User Locale

  • Select English, United States under User Locale

Personal Address Book

Add New Contact

  • Type in the information under corresponding fields.
  • Select Save.
    • After saving you will see the options to create new, delete and save.

Search Address Book

  • Under this option, you can search through your address book by a nickname, first or last name.
    • To further facilitate, you can also choose more detailed search specifications such as: nickname begins with, contains, ends with, etc.
    • Once contact is shown, you can right click on the name, and the information previously added will come up.

Fast Dials

Add New Fast Dial

  • Type in the information under corresponding fields.
  • Select Save
    • After saving you will see the options to create new, delete, and save.

Search Fast Dials

  • Under this option, you can search through your fast dials by a nickname, first or last name.

Dialing from your phone

  • When dialing from your Voip Phone, you select the number you want to dial and press: AbbrDial. This will directly call the number stored under the fast dial.

Note: Some changes will cause your phone to need to re-register with the Call Manager. This is normal and should only last for a few seconds. This will not affect any calls in progress.
